THE SYSTEMIC APPROACH

The systemic approach places great emphasis on understanding the interactions between the parts of a system and how they influence and impact each other.

The individual is seen as part of a system, such as the family and by extension the society. The approach examines the effect of this system on the individual’s behaviour and vice versa. Each person, as a unique entity, has a distinct role within each system. This role influences the behavioral patterns, decisions, and overall trajectory. The goal of the systemic approach is to recognize and evaluate these behavioral patterns and their dynamic correlations. This helps individuals initially understand the roles they unconsciously undertake, the outcomes, and how it affects their behavior, decisions, and as a result their life.

The understanding of the roles, the behavioural patterns, and the ongoing relationships within the system is assessed and adjusted with the aim of achieving a more functional, healthy, happy, and personally aligned way of life.

Furthermore, while the systemic approach helps us see the overall complexity surrounding a person’s life, it also allows us to focus on specific parts of the complex, such as the individual. Then, it address the problem based on whichever other approach or theory is relevant and beneficial for that particular case. In this way, it does not detach from other approaches but rather recognizes their value and incorporates them into the therapy.
